In 2019, eight engineers from Stanford's Aero and Astro Department set out to do for navigation what SpaceX did for launch and Planet did for Earth observation. The result is Xona Space Systems and its PULSAR constellation. These are satellites operating in Low Earth Orbit, up to 20 times closer to the ground than traditional GPS, delivering signals 170 times stronger, with sub-meter accuracy in dense urban canyons and indoors. In June 2025, Pulsar-0 broadcast the first fully authenticated navigation signal in history from LEO. With $170 million in Series C funding secured in early 2026, Xona is now scaling a factory in California to produce more navigation satellites in a single week than the U.S. government builds in an entire year.
