At a HAI seminar, Blaise Agüera y Arcas, CTO of Technology and Society at Google, explored the deep and largely positive implications of reframing intelligence in terms of social modeling, intersubjectivity, and symbiosis. Much of the discourse around AI portrays it as an alien and inscrutable intelligence. Agüera proposed new perspectives on life and evolution, the relationship between humans and technology, and the nature of free will and consciousness, arguing that our success in creating "real" AI with general capabilities in the 2020s has come not only from computational neuroscience, but also from large-scale modeling of human language--the "DNA" of our collective intelligence.
