To make space-based AI work, thousands of chips must communicate across a vacuum orbit with minimal delay, orbiting in a highly connected constellation. Without physical cables, we use lasers fired between satellites to transfer information; the equivalent of hitting a moving, coin-sized target from kilometers away, over and over again. In this video, Google researchers explain how they achieved an 800 Gbps bidirectional laser link by adapting off-the-shelf fiber optics. 00:15 - How can we keep the constellation connected? 00:38 - Why use lasers for satellite communication? 01:31 - Can terrestrial hardware work in space? #Google #ProjectSuncatcher #AI #Space #Innovation Subscribe to our Channel: https://www.youtube.com/google Find us on X: https://twitter.com/google Watch us on TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@google Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/google Join us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Google
