Astro MCP Server: Let Your Agent Work With Astro and Airflow
Your AI assistant can now see your Astro deployments. In this video, I set up the new Astro MCP server with one command and show the prompts where it actually saves time, from checking Runtime versions to writing a Dag that uses your real connections and worker queues. The Astro MCP server is a remote server hosted by Astronomer. It gives AI assistants like Claude Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code and Codex read access to your Astro organization, workspaces, deployments, connections and variables. It's read-only, and secret values always come back masked. You sign in with your Astro account, so there's no API token to generate. In this video: • What the Astro MCP server is, and why it stops your AI from guessing your setup • Setup in Claude Code with one command, plus Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code and Codex • The six tools it gives your assistant • 4 demos: a deployment overview, connections and variables, a Dag built from real config, and the Otto skill catalog • The Airflow MCP plugin for Dag runs and task logs, and how to keep it read-only • Debugging a failed Dag run with both servers together Setup in Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http astro https://api.astronomer.io/v1alpha1/astro/mcp Heads-up: the Astro MCP server is a Labs feature right now, so ask your account team to enable it. It replaces the deprecated astro-cloud MCP server.
