terrio: GDAL-Style Geospatial Tools in Pure Rust (No GDAL Install Needed)
GitHub: https://github.com/opengeos/terrio Documentation: https://terrio.opengeos.org terrio reads, writes, converts and reprojects geospatial rasters, vectors and point clouds in pure Rust, with no GDAL and no C dependencies. Use it from the command line, Python, JavaScript (WebAssembly) or Rust, or let an AI agent drive it through its MCP server. If you have ever been frustrated installing GDAL, give terrio a try: the CLI is a single ~15 MB binary that installs in seconds, with nothing else to set up. Its commands follow GDAL's utilities (gdalinfo, gdal_translate, gdalwarp, gdalbuildvrt, gdaldem, gdal_calc, gdal_rasterize, gdal_polygonize) and PDAL's point cloud tools, and every driver and operation is tested against GDAL on real-world files. In this video: - Installing terrio in one line (Linux, macOS, Windows, pip) - Inspecting and converting rasters and vectors (GeoTIFF, COG, GeoPackage, Shapefile, FlatGeobuf, GeoParquet, Zarr, PMTiles...) - Reading cloud-optimized data in place from S3 and HTTP, and STAC searches - Reprojection that matches GDAL for all 6,354 EPSG CRSs (within 1 cm) - Lidar point clouds: LAS, LAZ, COPC, ground filtering and DEM gridding - Python: NumPy, GeoPandas, Arrow, and a drop-in rasterio / rioxarray API - Running terrio in the browser with WebAssembly - Letting AI agents (Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code) use terrio via MCP --------------------------------------------------------- ๐ More Resources: ๐ Get My Books on GeoAI, DuckDB, and GIS Programming: https://opengeopub.com/bundles/geopython ๐บ GeoAI Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAxJ4-o7ZoPcvENqwaPa_QwbbkZ5sctZE ๐ Letโs Connect: YouTube: https://youtube.com/@giswqs LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/giswqs Twitter: https://twitter.com/giswqs Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/opengeos
