Why Claude ignores your skills

Anthropic just updated its official guide to building Claude Skills. The biggest rule: keep each skill under 500 lines. At first, Claude only sees each skill's name and description, so the description decides if your skill gets used. Describe what it does and when to use it, in third person, and move long details into separate files. Anthropic also says to build three tests before you write the skill: run Claude without it first, then write only enough to fix what broke.
