PyTorch Day India 2026 Enabling a New Device for Pytorch through OpenReg Antoni Viros i Martin, IBM

As the amount of AI accelerators supported by PyTorch keeps growing by the day, the core PyTorch team has created a set of standard interfaces, known globally as OpenReg and torch.accelerator. This talk is about how, at IBM, we've used these APIs to enable support for our Spyre accelerator, and how these new APIs compare to our previous legacy approach of supporting PyTorch, along with all the advantages we're getting from it, and how we plan to contribute back to it so everyone can benefit from it.
