Building an AI Recipe App That Self-Organizes — Pinecone Nexus Demo

Ever open the fridge after a long day with no idea what to make? In this video, Pinecone Senior DevRel Arjun Patel builds a cooking assistant on top of Pinecone Nexus that turns a pile of recipes into three completely different kinds of answers — mood-based recommendations, "what can I make with what's on hand," and full weekly meal plans — without writing a single line of retrieval code. Nexus automatically organizes the recipe dataset into the right shape for each query type (mood/flavor profiles, an ingredient index, meal-planning artifacts, and more), removing the need to hand-build a search pipeline. The video walks through importing a new recipe straight from a URL, then goes inside the Nexus console to show exactly how it curates that data — manifests, artifacts, and the knowledge graph connecting recipes to ingredients and flavors — before putting it all to work in the app. What's covered: Importing recipes from any URL with an agent that scrapes and indexes automatically How Nexus's manifest + artifacts system organizes one dataset for multiple query types Browsing the auto-generated knowledge base (ingredient index, mood/flavor profiles) "I'm craving something..." — natural language recipe recommendations "What can I make with these ingredients?" — pantry-matching search "Plan my week" — full agentic meal planning with a shopping list, generated automatically Timestamps: 0:00 – Intro: the "what's for dinner" problem 0:18 – What we're building and why 0:58 – Importing a recipe from a URL 1:22 – Inside Pinecone Nexus: Sources 2:24 – Inside Pinecone Nexus: Design (manifests & artifacts) 3:28 – Inside Pinecone Nexus: Knowledge (ingredient index) 4:18 – Demo: "I'm craving..." mood search 4:51 – Demo: what can I make with these ingredients? 5:54 – Demo: plan my whole week 7:24 – Wrap-up Presented by Arjun Patel, Senior Developer Relations Engineer at Pinecone.
