ComfyUI Tutorial for Beginners: Inpainting, Outpainting & Upscaling (2026)

Module 4 of Comfy 101 covers the editing toolkit — the four workflows that let you fix a generation instead of re-rolling it. When 90% of an image is right, you shouldn't throw away the whole thing to fix the other 10%. This module walks through inpainting, outpainting, segmentation, and upscaling, and how they chain together into a single finishing pass. We build an inpainting workflow in RealVis XL, generate masks automatically with the SAM 3 Text Segmentation node, then tune them with Grow Mask and Feather Mask before passing everything through InpaintModelConditioning. You'll also learn to draw masks by hand in the Mask Editor when you want precise control.
