AI as Infrastructure

A road still works after the contractor is gone, but as we’ve already seen, an AI service can disappear the moment its vendor does. We need AI that outlasts the company that builds it, says Mozilla CTO Raffi Krikorian. Organizations want ownership and control. Countries also want control over where their data is processed, and subscription products can’t always meet that need. Open, downloadable models give them a way to keep running and governing the AI systems they depend on.
