Christchurch Call Initiative on Algorithmic Outcomes Phase 1 Workshop
On 10 November 2023 Dame Jacinda Ardern and President Emmanuel Macron convened Christchurch Call Leaders at the Elysée palace to announce progress in their efforts to combat terrorist and violent extremist content online, and to position the Call for success in an age of AI. On 10-11 November 2023, the Paris Peace Forum convened for the sixth time, to work on solutions to the ‘greatest challenges of our times’. Leveraging both the Call Community and the digital pillar of the Paris Peace Forum, the Call Secretariat hosted a series of side events to build momentum and progress on key topics. The USA, New Zealand, Microsoft, and Twitter announced the Christchurch Call Initiative on Algorithmic Outcomes (CCIAO) in September 2022 as a flagship project to advance understanding of risks and harms from online services, to improve access to information and understanding about algorithms and AI, and to build better positive interventions. In phase 1, we made considerable progress, and we are poised to announce the attainment of significant milestones and the arrival of new participants in the CCIAO. In our interactive presentation and facilitated discussion on CCIAO we will update the community on what has been achieved, highlight the future opportunities and use cases of the tool, encourage other data owners and funders to get involved, and invite input and discussion.
