How Google Search Actually Works 🔍

Google Search Architecture: Offline vs Online! Google can't scan billions of web pages every time someone searches, so search runs as two separate systems. The offline half runs nonstop. Googlebot finds new URLs through links and sitemaps, then the indexer stores each page in the search index, a lookup table that maps every word to the pages containing it. The online half kicks in when you hit enter, working out what the query means and ranking the matching pages by relevance, quality, freshness, language and links from trusted sites. Did you think Google searched the live web every time?
