Here's how you can make API calls using Excel so that you can build dashboards using nothing but data from the web. In this video we walk through an example using the World Bank's API (which is great because you don't even need an API key). We'll use Excel's WEBSERVICE( ) function to make the API call. The result is the XML code that comes back from the API call. Then we'll use Excel's FILTERXML( ) formula to pull out the specific value we're looking for from the returned XML. In the video, we'll show you how we can use these functions with a dropdown to create a dynamic dashboard that will pull API data on the fly and create an interactive visualization. Happy Learning!
