Hermes Agent + Supabase: Ask Your Receipts Anything (Voice to Insights) | No code tutorial

I built a AI bookkeeper with Supabase and an open-source agent that reads every receipt and answers any money question in plain English. In this tutorial I show you exactly how I turned three years of crumpled, multi-currency, faded receipts into a database I own — and an AI bookkeeper I can literally talk to. The whole system runs on Supabase's free tier ($0, no credit card) and an open-source self-improving agent called Hermes from Nous Research, all controlled from Telegram. The receipt pile is every business owner's black hole. Instead of a spreadsheet, I hand the whole mess to an AI agent that reads each receipt with a vision model, extracts the vendor, date, amount, tax, and category, and files it as a clean row in Supabase. A thousand receipts, a thousand rows, none skipped. The part most people skip — and the reason this actually worked — is the official Supabase agent skill. It's a free, open-source instruction manual that stops AI agents from quietly wrecking your database: enforcing Row Level Security, granting data API access correctly, writing modern policies, and verifying every change. I break down the six things it forced Hermes to do that a bare agent would have skipped. Then the payoff: I ask my receipts questions in plain English. How much did I spend on AWS last year? Which vendor grew the most? How much of this is recurring charges on a single card? Hermes writes SQL on the fly through an MCP connection and queries my own database live. That's the difference between a finance app and a finance brain. I'll also show you the auto-import workflows, scheduled nightly digests, and a Q4 forecast that works like a CFO in your phone.
