The All-Electric Flying Machine Reinventing Sea Travel
Meet REGENT Craft, a Rhode Island-based startup reinventing sea travel with the Viceroy Seaglider, an all-electric maritime vehicle that flies just above the water's surface. Designed to shorten coastal commutes while reducing carbon emissions, the Seaglider operates in three modes: hull mode like a traditional boat, hydrofoil mode where advanced foils lift the craft above the water to reduce drag, and flight mode where it harnesses ground effect to reach top speed. Engineers at REGENT Craft use Model-Based Design with MATLAB and Simulink to develop flight control software, using a Model-Based Design workbench to accelerate verification and streamline certification. The team also relies on digital twins to simulate real-world conditions before testing on the water with the full-scale Viceroy prototype.
