Databases: Replicas Cannot Save You From Deletes!

Can Database Replicas Restore Deleted Rows? A DBA accidentally deletes half the rows on the primary database. There are two replicas. Can the data be pulled back from them? Most people say yes, and that's the trap. A replica copies every change from the primary within milliseconds, including deletes. When 10 million rows disappear from the primary, they disappear from every replica too. Replication keeps the database available when the primary machine fails. It does nothing against human error. Recovery from mistakes needs a backup: a point-in-time snapshot stored somewhere disconnected from the live system, like an S3 bucket or separate storage. Would you have fallen for this one in an interview?
