How EVgo Uses GIS to Site Chargers | The Business of Where

EVgo uses GIS to choose where to build EV fast-charging stations, weighing where drivers live and work, nearby amenities, and flood risk. GIS (geographic information system) technology helps EVgo, an electric vehicle fast-charging company, site charging stations more effectively and speed up deployment. By layering location data, EVgo can see where its EV customers live and work, which locations offer 24/7 lighting, food, and restrooms, and which sites sit too close to flood hazard areas. The map also becomes a shared language. Because everyone understands a map, EVgo uses it to communicate with utility companies, which can then plan grid capacity for future EV charging demand. You don't need to be a large enterprise to put location data to work. Esri's GIS for Small Businesses and Municipalities initiative gives smaller organizations an accessible starting point with ArcGIS, including curated licensing, guidance and templates to get started, success stories from other small organizations, and a directory of qualified partners to help them scale.
