The Biggest Mistake Leaders Make With AI Decisions
What’s the biggest mistake leaders make with AI decisions? Andrew Grotto, co-director of Stanford’s AI, Power, and the New Rules of Global Strategy program, says it’s treating them as technical problems only. Cybersecurity, geopolitics, regulatory policy, and reputational risk all shape those decisions too. His example is choosing an AI model. Whether a model comes from the U.S., China, or another country, choosing it can also mean taking on that jurisdiction’s regulations, in addition to your own. Organizations that skip that analysis can end up with blind spots in their regulatory risk. Before Stanford, Grotto served as senior director for cyber policy on the National Security Council at the White House. He leads the program with Francis Fukuyama, senior fellow at Stanford’s Freeman Spogli Institute. Over three and a half days on Stanford’s campus, it helps executives, board directors, and policymakers understand how geopolitical forces are shaping AI decisions.
