Webinar: Regulating at the Speed of AI with Francis Fukuyama and Nate Persily
Learn more about about AI, Power and the New Rules of Global Strategy - https://online.stanford.edu/courses/xfsi210-ai-power-and-new-rules-global-strategy Anxiety about the increasing capabilities of AI systems has reached unprecedented levels in the past few months. Concerns about offensive cyber capabilities led the administration to suspend the deployment of an AI model for the first time. Powerful open models from China raise the spectre of a technology that is widely diffused but poorly controlled. News about models escaping company sandboxes to hack external websites has led many to update their p(doom) levels. Employees of the major AI labs are sounding the alarm about loss of control and existential risks from the newest AI models, and some political actors and technologists are calling for a pause in AI development. The topic of AI governance is, it is fair to say, having its moment. In this webinar, Francis Fukuyama, Olivier Nomellini Senior Fellow at Stanford’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, interviews Nathaniel Persily, James B. McClatchy Professor of Law at Stanford Law School and co-director of the Stanford Law AI Initiative. Their conversation will examine the need for AI governance and the challenges confronting both governments and firms as they try to build in controls to chart a safe AI future. You Will Learn: - What obstacles stand in the way of effective AI governance - How AI regulation and governance differs from other technological settings, such as social media - How countries around the world have approached the topic of AI governance and what we can learn from their efforts
