OpenAI's Agents Talked Through CPU Cache

Posts on X are going viral claiming that "we are completely done" because OpenAI's autonomous agents supposedly broke isolation and figured out how to communicate secretly through the CPU cache on their own. The actual security report tells a much calmer—and fascinating—story. In an assigned red-team evaluation, OpenAI explicitly commanded its agents to find a way to exchange a fake secret across isolated microVMs on a shared host machine with no network connection and no shared writable files. The agents didn't go rogue; they independently reconstructed a classic hardware side-channel attack.
