Google SYNTHID (Free AI Detector) Is a TIME Best Invention.

Google just opened its AI detector, SynthID Detector, to everyone. You upload a photo, a video or an audio clip, and it tells you if it was made with AI from Google or from a partner like OpenAI. I didn't want to just take their word for it, so I made a pile of fakes and tried to break it. Of the 8 files that carried the watermark, it caught 6. In this video: → What SynthID is: an invisible watermark, like the security strip in a dollar bill → Why it matters now, with fakes you can't spot by looking → Who should use it: support teams, insurance claims, a viral video about your company, the family group chat → My test: the same prompt to Google's Nano Banana, OpenAI's image model and ByteDance's Seedream → What it survived: a WhatsApp-style squash, and an Instagram-style filter with a caption → What broke it: an AI image inside a phone screenshot, and a Veo clip reposted vertical like on TikTok → The one rule to remember: "not detected" does not prove a photo is real The demo is my own uploads to synthid.com: AI images and dashcam videos made with Nano Banana, OpenAI, Seedream, Veo and Kling, a real selfie of mine, and an AI photo of me.
