The End Of Gems: How To Use The New Gemini Skills

Skills are now in Gemini. A Skill is your own saved instructions, like a Gem, but you pull it into any normal chat with a slash, and you can use two at once. It's also the same open SKILL.md format that Claude, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and Antigravity already use, so a Skill you build here isn't stuck in Gemini. Google is moving Gems over to Skills starting November 17, 2026 on personal accounts. Work accounts keep their Gems until March 2027 and school accounts until June 2027. I moved my own Gems over by hand to see what comes across, what doesn't, and what Skills do better. One big thing my Gem did didn't come along, at least not yet.
