I WATER-COOLED My M5 Max MacBook Pro… Here’s What Happened

Can you water-cool a MacBook Pro and actually improve sustained performance when running local AI models? In this video, I test a custom cooling system I built for my **14-inch MacBook Pro M5 Max with 128GB of unified memory**. I regularly use this machine to run large language models locally, and under sustained workloads the MacBook can generate a significant amount of heat. So I decided to experiment with a completely different approach to laptop cooling. My DIY setup uses: • A custom copper stand • A Peltier thermoelectric cooling module • A water block • Liquid cooling • Thermal monitoring with a thermal camera I show how the cooling system was designed and built, what the MacBook looks like under a thermal camera, and what happens when I run local LLM workloads for extended periods. The goal is simple: keep the MacBook cooler during sustained AI workloads and reduce the possibility of performance being limited by heat. I also test local language models and look at performance while the cooling system is operating. This isn't a normal laptop cooling pad — it's essentially an experimental external cooling system designed specifically for heavy sustained workloads. 💻 MacBook Pro 14" ⚡ Apple M5 Max 🧠 128GB Unified Memory 🤖 Local LLM / AI inference ❄️ Peltier cooling 💧 Water cooling 🌡️ Thermal camera testing If you're interested in **local AI, Apple Silicon, running large language models on Mac, hardware experiments, cooling systems or pushing Apple Silicon beyond normal workloads**, I'd love to hear what you think. Would you try something like this on your Mac? Let me know what other tests or local AI models you'd like to see me run. ⚠️ This is an experimental DIY project. Peltier cooling can create temperatures below ambient and may cause condensation. Modifying or externally cooling electronic equipment can damage hardware. Do not reproduce this setup unless you understand the electrical, thermal and condensation risks involved. #MacBookPro #M5Max #LocalLLM #LocalAI #AppleSilicon #WaterCooling #Peltier #AI
